Kevin Smith

Kevin Smith has worked for the IUCN secretariat for 15 years. For the past 6 years he has led their work on invasive alien species, and prior to this he co-ordinated IUCN Red List assessments and the identification of Key Biodiversity Areas for freshwater biodiversity across the globe. Through his current role he works closely with the IUCN SSC Invasive Species Specialist Group (ISSG), and IUCN Members to support IAS policy development and implementation at a national, regional and global level. His particular focus is on the EU IAS Regulation, and the Convention on Biological Diversity Post 2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. He has also supported the ISSG with the development of the recently launched IUCN Standard for measuring impacts from IAS; the IUCN Environmental Impact Classification for Alien Taxa (EICAT). He holds a BSc in Zoology, and an MSC in Environmental Law and Conservation.
